My own career journey:
In 2016, the strain of juggling a hectic career as an Emergency Medicine Consultant and Head of School, alongside three young children, led me to the brink of burnout. Ultimately this experience triggered a slide out of love with a clinical role I once adored.
I re-focused on medical education, thriving in national roles for Training Quality and Leadership, examining and recruitment. I led the development of national guidance including ‘Promoting Excellence In Emergency Medicine Training’ and an e-Learning for Health module on ‘Leading Self’. My work was awarded the RCEM College Medal in 2021.
Post-pandemic, I swapped clinical hours to support team well-being. My lived experience helped my understanding and empathy for others at work; new skills in coaching and careers led to two years as a Trust coach, working across the workforce. Coaching was a catalyst for my own strengths- based career transformation and I left clinical practice in 2023 to focus on coaching and medical education.
I work for the NHS as a senior case manager, career lead and exam coach for Wessex PSW and coach within local Trusts to support consultants and residents to navigate their lives and careers. I run regional workshops, speak at conferences and work as a Shapes Toolkit trainer with Dr. Rachel Morris from the 'You are not a Frog' podcast. I am midway through a Masters in Coaching and Mentoring at Oxford Brooks University.
I live in Hampshire with my family and dog Mabel, learning to prioritise my own well-being, whilst enjoying my career, family and the journey again.
